The Three Characteristics Of A Good Website

One of my passions lately is browsing the web, looking for all sort of information. It’s faster and easier than reading books, but sometimes it is a pain to get to the information you need, because the author of the website thought himself to be an unrevealed artist.

This is what I pretend from a website, in order to call it good:

  1. Fast loading: all I want is to get to the information as fast as possible, so I don’t care about fancy graphics which take forever to get loaded. Make it ugly but fast and I’ll read it.
  2. Easy navigation: the menu should be visible, clear, and in the upper part of the page, or in the right sidebar. This is what I’m used to, and this is the most convenient for me to browse the content of a website.
  3. Contact info: I want to be able to ask somebody if I need clarifications on what I read online. Plus, this makes the website more credible to me, knowing who’s the author.

What do you think? What else would you need?

Just Like Digg, But For Blogs

If you run a blog, chances are that you know by now what Digg is. This social networking website has become famous for the big number of visitors you can get to your website if your story gets as many votes as to be featured on the front page.

I’ve never had the chance to test the power of Digg, as the categories liked by most of the users there do not fit too much my topics and my way of writing. Besides, you have to make friends if you want to make it big on Digg. That’s a social networking place, and this really means networking, communicating with your peers and sharing interesting stories with them.

Nevertheless, I’ve discovered that there are many sites which allow bloggers to submit their stories and get voted by the community. Maybe they don’t bring in too much traffic, but there has to be a start in everything, and it is better to be among the first users of a social network, so you get some advantages when, or if, it gets big.

I have this proposal for you, my readers: once a week, I’ll review one of the less known such networks, where you can submit your stories and get some fame and votes.

For this week, check BlogLancer Social Networking site. It works just like Digg, but there are more categories, so even if your blog is about ants you’ll still find a place where it fits.

How To Get Remote Access To Your PC

How cool would it be to have remote access to your computer from anywhere in the world? To be able to access all your files, to do everything just like you’d be in your home or in your office, while you lay down on the beach and sip a chilly cocktail or a nice fresh fruit juice?

Well, if that beach has an internet connection, now you can do this, thanks to RemotePC, an application which allows you to access your PC from anywhere, provided that you are connected to the internet. If you’d think this is only for the rich guys, then let me tell you that it costs only $4.95 per month. In order to be convinced it works, you’ll get a free trial for the first 30 days.

This is good solution not only for individuals, but for boosting productivity of small businesses. You can have access to your office PCs via multiple access points, in a fast and secure way. The entire communication is encrypted using 128-bit RC4/SSL, so your business secrets are safe. You can have up to 100 computers connected via this service. This is more expensive than the individual plan, but it is surely worth the price, thinking that all your employees can be connected in any single moment.

One of the features of this application is allowing you to print any document from your remote PC to the local printer. How cool is that?

Entertainment Poll: What Do You Enjoy More?

There so many leisure activities and hobbies, that one cannot have enough time to practice everything. Many times, we have to choose, because there are only 24 hours in a day, and we are all equal in front of time.

So, I’ve had a debate with several friends, and we decided for the following activities to be the first priorities on our lists when it comes to relaxation and free time for our passions:

1. Swimming

This won by far, as we are all big fans of swimming, However, it is time consuming, because it requires going to the swimming pool, taking a shower before and after the swim, drying your hair, and driving back home. So, swimming could take a whole evening and leave us with barely any time or energy for something else.

2. Computer games

We have a network and we like to play MMORPGs like Age of Conan, or Warcraft. The advantage is that we don’t need to commute to be able to play. It is enough to open the computers and get connected. However, this is so addicting that we end up in the middle of the night, chasing each others like crazy. Good, but this doesn’t leave any space for other family activities.

3. Fishing

We like it, but it is both time and money consuming, so we don’t afford to go fishing more than 5-6 times per year.

4. Golf

Addicting and entertaining, golf is one of our favorite hobbies. Too bad we have to pay for accommodation, as we don’t have any golf clubs in town. This is expensive, and our wives don’t play, so we don’t go more than once a year.

5. What’s your favorite hobby? We want to know, maybe you give us some new ides.

How To Find Coupon Codes Online for Binoculars, Shoes and More

When you are used to do your shopping online, you know how important it is to find promotional codes online, and how much money you can save each month if you use such discount coupons. Why pay more, when it takes you only a couple of minutes to get the exactly same merchandise for a better price?

One of the places where you can find lots of coupons, from many retailers, is 1-coupons.com, where you can choose coupon codes for products belonging to several categories, such as Automotive, Baby and Kids, Books and Magazines, Clothing, Computers, Electronics, Flowers and Gifts, Food and Wine, or even Jewelry or Shoes. If you’re lucky, you can get a pair of Swarovski Traveler binoculars at a very good price.

In case you are looking for discount coupons from particular merchants or shops, you are in the right place: from Office Depot to Franklin Covey, or even Dell, everything is waiting for you at 1-coupons.com with fresh promotional codes.

The coupons are organized by their expiry date, and they are very easy to browse. You are advised to double check your shopping cart after using a coupon, in order to make sure that it is still working, so you get the promised discount. This is a good tip, as many of the coupons and promotional codes don’t have an expiry date, so the merchants can end the promotion at any time.

On the same website, you can find some cool gift ideas, just in case you cannot decide what to buy as presents for your friends or family.
